Mission Statement

Vision

The vision of ASCE is the engineers as global leaders building a better quality of life. Its mission is to provide essential value to its members, their careers, our partners, and the public through developing leadership, advancing technology, advocating lifelong learning and promoting the profession.

Purpose

The purpose of ASCE is educational, scientific, literary, and charitable, including but not limited to:

• The advancement of the science of engineering to enhance the welfare of humanity;
• The furtherance of education on the science of engineering;
• The maintenance of the highest standards of excellence in the educational fields relating to the science of engineering;
• The exercise of such powers as permitted by law to organizations described in Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.

History

The Buffalo Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) was founded in 1921, and through the years it has played an important role in the engineering community. We are located in Zone 1 of the geographic subdivision of ASCE, representing a membership of over 500 civil engineers and engineering students in and around the Western New York area, including the counties of Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany in New York State. The Buffalo Section is a member of the ASCE New York State Council and Technical Societies Council of the Niagara Frontier (TSC).

The Buffalo Section offers continuous support of the local engineering community. We strive for the advancement of the science and profession of civil engineering through education.
