James McKeehan is currently an EIT Structural Engineer in Buffalo, NY at WSP USA Inc.  He has a wide range of experience in structural design and construction support.  James has been involved on multiple projects of various scales for Niagara Falls Bridge Commission, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, NYS Parks and Recreation, University at Buffalo, Albright Knox Art Gallery, NFTA, and Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.  James has taken initiative at WSP by pushing cutting edge BIM technology and developing and improving design workflows.  James prioritizes engineering ethics, design quality, and further development in the field of civil engineering.

Mr. McKeehan has educational background in architecture, civil engineering and structural engineering.  James has received an Associate of Applied Science in Architecture Construction, from Erie Community College in 2013. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, from the University at Buffalo in 2017.  He has been a part-time graduate student at the University at Buffalo in the Civil Engineering program and anticipates graduation in 2021.  James was skeptical on pursuing a master’s degree at the end of his undergraduate program because he wasn’t sure how it would benefit him; however, he now strongly encourages all structural engineering prospects to get a master’s degree.  He has found value in every class he has taken so far and how it applies directly to him at his job.  In his opinion, the master’s program at the University at Buffalo provides a great foundation of knowledge in structural engineering and enables engineers to work on very interesting projects.

James has served on the board of directors for ASCE Buffalo since 2017.  During his undergraduate career, he was involved in the steel bridge and seismic design teams for the ASCE Buffalo Student chapter.  ASCE Buffalo has provided James with the opportunity to attend a leadership conference, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, teach basic structural engineering classes to middle schoolers via Dream Big Campaign, attend various lunch presentations from local industry experts, and various networking events.  Before COVID-19 pandemic, the ASCE younger members met up once per month for a social event.  At these events, we attended local restaurants, played trivia, and went skiing!

Outside of engineering, James has a young family at home, enjoys the great outdoors, playing hockey and tennis, working with his hands, and of course is an unconditional Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan.

Please reach out to James if interested in getting involved with volunteering opportunities, career advice, ASCE events, presenting a project and/or research, and award nominations.  Also, James is happy to be a mentor to any current or recently graduated students.
