Cleveland Drive Bridge Replacement - Design & Construction Challenges

Presentation - 1 PDH

This technical presentation will focus on the unique design methodology and construction challenges associated with the Cleveland Drive Bridge Replacement, which is comprised of a 215’ long composite steel multi-girder superstructure with rigid connections to the abutments. The contract was an $11.4M bridge replacement, which was constructed by Cold Springs Construction from Akron, NY during the 2015 construction season. The owner is the New York State Thruway Authority, the designer was CHA Consulting from Buffalo, and construction inspection was performed by Parsons Brinkerhoff. The presentation will focus on the atypical analysis methods and frame modelling used for the structural design, as well as provide perspective on several design and construction considerations and challenges that are unique to Rigid Frame design.
