Speaker
Dr. Sreenivas Alampalli, P.E. , MBA
Director, Structures Evaluation Services Bureau
New York State Dept. of Transportation (NYSDOT)
Abstract
NYSDOT is responsible for inspection and evaluation of more than 17,000 state and locally owned bridges. (A bridge is defined as a structure open to the public that span more than 20 feet.) This presentation will discuss the role of the bridge inspection and evaluation of these bridges for ensuring public safety and effective asset management, including preservation of the economic value of the assets. It will provide insight on legal requirements, coming changes to the rating and reporting systems used for biennial inspections, qualification of and training for inspection personnel, and some of the unique issues that arise in administering a program of this size (~$80M/year).
