Innovation and the NYS Canal System: Past, Present, and Future

The Canal Corporation, under the New York Power Authority, is tasked with measuring needs and assessing best practices for managing the 200-year-old Barge Canal system. Learn how Canals Asset Management and Structural inspection programs are using technology to develop innovative ways to detect, document, share, and prioritize the repair, rehabilitation and/or replacement of its ageing infrastructure.

Biography

Matthew J. Lengel, MBA, PE is a NYS Licensed Engineer employed as the Statewide Asset Management & Inspection Engineer by the NYS Canal Corporation where he currently has responsibilities for creating an Asset Management program and managing the structural inspection program. A graduate of the State University at Buffalo, Matt has 14+ years’ experience in consulting geotechnical and structural engineering, and public-sector construction management, emergency management, structural inspection and asset management.
